In 1833 Dubai was founded, when about eight hundred people from the Bani Yas tribe moved to Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Batti led them to the creek of Dubai, which divides the city into two parts: Deira and Bur Dubai. Since that time ruled Dubai under his Family.

The leadership Sheikh Maktoum bin Batti led the rule from (1833-1852).

It was a difficult period in which he faced political and economic challenges, as Dubai was a small town but, he played a big role to preserve the area known as the Trucial Coast

Then came Sheikh Saeed bin Batti (1952-1859) who followed the path of his brother Maktoum, then formed the union of Dubai with Abu Dhabi and Umm Al Quwain, and became seriously ill and died.

Next came Sheikh Hasher bin Maktoum (1859-1868).

He has been a just and strong ruler, who respected the treaties concluded with England and the Trucial States.

He codified penalties that violated these treaties.

Sheikh Rashid bin Maktoum (1868-1894).

He expanded his relationships with families, especially the Bouchams tribe from the Buraimi region, who married one of their daughters.

Sheikh Maktoum bin Hasher (1894-1906) 

He ruled after Rashid bin Maktoum, he abolished taxes and liberalized trade and Dubai became a world trade center during his reign.

Sheikh Batti bin Suhail (1906-1912) 

The death of Maktoum Ibn Hasher was in the year 1906 and he had young children, so the ruling went to his cousin Sheikh Batti Bin Suhail, who ruled for a period of 6 years.

Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum (1912-1958)

During his reign, Dubai was a large commercial center of its privileged location, as well as for the pearl trade, which was an important source of income. In the thirties of the last century, all the emirates affected by the economic crisis and the pearl trade were destroyed to discover high quality and cheap artificial pearls.

All the emirates relied  only on the pearl trade, but in  Dubai port was not affected much by this crisis because the variability of trade in Dubai.  Sheikh Saeed was very interested in the teachings of Islam. He always took his children in Pakistan to    make  sport hunting houbara by falcons, and to the palm field that he owned in Ras Al Khaimah.

Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum (from 1958 to 1990)

He was educated in the Ahmadiyya school and learned a lot from his father, Sheikh Saeed, especially the hobby of falconry.He managed the emirate out the box, and that policy played a  role in Dubai's development, which led it to where it is today.He had a daily program to follow up on projects during the day, then he went to the Majlis at night for the daily meeting.He established Dubai Municipality in 1960 (the old building of the municipality in the Deira market).
In the municipality building, the first planning for the modern city of Dubai was drawn up and plans for the first square, the Clock Square and the public parks.

In his time many accomplishments, such as the Al Maktoum Bridge, which facilitated the movement of trade inside and outside Dubai. As well as the establishment of Dubai Airport,  he had an important project to expand and deepening of the creek, after it was flooded with silt. He established the Sheikh Rashid Port and Maktoum Hospital. 

In1964 the first hotel in Dubai, founded to be the pillar of tourism, then 5-star hotels.  He built the Sheikh Rashid Tower, to start the real state trade.

He cooperated with the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in achieving the dream of unity, which became a reality.

 In 1971 by announcing the union of the United Arab Emirates with 7 Emirates.He became with Sheikh Zayed as Vice President of the State and Prime Minister 1979-1983.Since 1981 he has been very ill and his sons' taken care of him. He was assigned to his son Maktoum as ruled after him, he passed away in 1991.

Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum (1990-2006)

Who took over the rule of Dubai after the death of his father, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed, and also as deputy head of state and first prime minister (1972-1979).

In 1979 he ceded the ministry to his father, Sheikh Rashid, he returned as Prime Minister from (1983-2006).

Sheikh Maktoum had studied the English language and science at the hands of specialized teachers, and then his father, Sheikh Rashid sent him to complete his education in England. 

During the period of the rule, he financed all charitable projects and established schools, universities, sports facilities, horse teams, vital facilities, and gardens. Founded horse stables (Godolphin), and the team won first place in London in 1997.He took care of the low-income people at the level of the Emirates and built economic houses for them. He passed away in 2006 during one of his trips to Australia.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (2006 until present)

Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister, Minister of Defense U A E, and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was born on July 15, 1949. On January 4, 2006, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was a ruler in the Emirate of Dubai. He undertook major reforms for the UAE government, launching the Federal Government Strategy 2008 and the UAE Vision 2021. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid is best known for authoring and organizing Nabati Arabic poetry that deals with a number of topics, the most prominent of which are related to public affairs.

Most of the modern projects in Dubai started with his ruled, and they were approved and supported by his brothers.

Dubai needed such projects because of the depletion of oil in it, no more than 20 % of its income at that time.

Dubai has become, under the leadership of His Highness, one of the most prominent and developed cities in the world.

As well as a number of initiatives such as:

the Shopping Festival, the Dubai E-Government. He established Godolphin, a group of stables equipped for international horse racing, and Darley stables to take care of stallions.

The establishment of Modern Dubai airports that contain the best international airports services to receive travelers to the development of tourism in Dubai. 

He built the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab, on an artificial island. He grounded the Palm Island project a resort project consisting of three man-made islands shaped like a palm.

The establishment of Burj Khalifa, the highest building in the world 828 m, has 180 floors,180 apartments,450 suites

In 2013, Dubai was chosen to host the International Expo from October 1, 2021, until March 31, 2022, where more than 180 countries and millions of visitors from around the world will meet in this exhibition.

Name

‏Dubai, also spelled Dubayy,

There the saw the word being derived from two Persian words

Bayy Bride And two Du , This is to refer to Bur Dubai and Deira Duba .

There is a second opinion that sees the word derived from (Dibba), 

Which is a famous market, and that is why it was named after him.

The third meaning:  (He came with Dibba from Dubai) meaning he brought a lot of money, and that is that everyone who used to come to Dubai returns with a lot of money, because the creek has made it a global center for trade.

The fourth meaning of the word Dubai (Dibba), and means a small grasshopper that did not show its wings yet. A small grasshopper covered the face of the whole of Dubai and did not leave any grass in it, and Dubai used to appear like desert land until it was inhabited by the Al Maktoum tribe.

Finally, the name may belong to a woman who was called Dabayah, who could inform the tribe of the pirates' movements to protect them from their attacks before they happened.

The Geographical location

The city of Dubai is the capital of the emirate, divided by a bay of water called Dubai Creek into two parts: the southern part called Bur Dubai and the northern part called Deira.

Dubai is the second among the seven emirates by area, about 4,114 square kilometers.

Dubai is located on the eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, in the southwestern corner of the Arabian Gulf, and its coastline is about 72 kilometers long, and it is bordered by Abu Dhabi to the south, and Sharjah to the northeast, and Dubai is about 16 meters above sea level.

The mountainous Hatta region belongs to the emirate of Dubai, it's far away about 100 kilometers from the border of the Sultanate of Oman.

Population

Dubai is distinguished by its cultural diversity, and it is known as the international city, where 270 nationalities live in Dubai and coexist with each other without racism or ideological difference.

   The population of the Emirate of Dubai is approximately 3,355,900 people

   There were 2,331,800 males and 1,024,100 females.

The high percentage of males compared to the number of females is due to the fact that the highest percentage of expatriate workers are males who do not accompany their family members with them.

The number of Emirati citizens in the Emirate of Dubai reached 168,029, males numbered 84,245, and females reached 83,784 people.

The climate Dubai's characterized by high temperature and humidity in summer and mild winters with irregular rainfall.    The average annual precipitation in the coastal region is less than 120 mm, but in some mountainous areas, the annual precipitation often reaches 350 mm. Dubai has desert locations, from time to time, strong dust storms blow on Dubai and reducing visibility.    From November to May, the temperature ranges between 22 degrees Celsius and rises to 35 degrees Celsius.     From May to November, temperatures range between 30 ° C and 48 ° C.

Economy

Dubai has been distinguished as a link for commercial traffic, that connects the east of the world with its west.

In the past, Dubai Creek was a natural port for the region, and Dubai was a center for fishing, pearling, and trade.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, Dubai became a popular port and the main market located on the Deira side was the largest in the coastal region.

In 1966 the oil discovered, Dubai's rapid growth and changes in lifestyle.
